Drivers door mirror lets in water?

I have a 2003 406 saloon with electric mirrors. When I leave it out in the rain, it seems to let water in at the base of the door mirror trim cover. Is there any knack involved in removing the cover or does it just pull straight off?. Hopefully the mirror just requires tightening although to be honest it feels tight on the door already. Failing this, is there a seal or gasket that might be missing or worst of all is it possible that it leaks where it pivots and may need replacing? If I have to replace it, is it just a question of one off and one on or does the entire car need rewiring and re-programming. You may have guessed that Peugeot 406's make me paranoid !

The cover does just pop off & you've got 3 torx screws holding the mirror on.
There should be a rubber gasket on the mirror which may be perished or not located properly. You could run a bead of silicone around it to get a better seal but I've not heard of these leaking before!
