on my w reg estate (d9) the rear drivers door has gone stiff all of a sudden and you cant just fling it shut. it has to be pushed to.
is it that the hinges need attention, or the check strap?

Check strap, catch, hinges... I can't tell from here but would be worth oiling things one at a time to see what makes a difference.

Just as an afterthought, I bought some spray grease the other day and sprayed all my locks, straps and hinges and suddenly shutting them sounds much less like the "clang!" of a soul-less Japanese dullmobile...

It would be worth cleaning all the old crap off first and starting again with a nice clingy greasy/silicony stuff.
My back doors were always like this and oiling them seemed to make little difference

it was bad enough that my kids couldn't close them from inside the car, like they were stuck open.
