removing headlights on a d8

Hi all,

searched for this but could only find info on d9's (mind you, it IS 745 am so a little bitslow this morning!)

I have a dipped headlight out on my driver's side cluster - the side lights and full beam are working fine, so I reckon it's just t'bulb. I had a go at getting it out last night in the pissing rain, but I only found one bolt/screw/thingy holding it in place at the top - but after removing it I still couldn't take the cluster out. Are there more, or is there a trick?

I'm a little confused, are you trying to change the bulb or the whole headlight unit?

i assume the headlights are mounted the same in d8/d9 so youll need to take off the grille, then youll see another bolt, then there is one more holding the light onto the wing, hard to get at but once its turning it comes out easy, just dont drop it. So thats it 3 bolts in total, and it comes out

I'm trying to change the bulb - I am under the impression I have to remove the unit to access it?

There's no grille-side bolt, that side came loose easily, but it was wing side that stayed firm.

get a wee socket ratchet in there, it needs a good pull, i did it, and chafed my hand on the wing cut it right open not nice, so be careful

DO NOT remove the whole light to change a bulb

simply clip of the cover on the back of the light, access the bulbs there

it takes all of 2 minutes to change a bulb 8)

It's a bit of a squeeze but they aint no Renault. Pay attention to which way up the bulb went 'cos it'll make it easier to slot it back and expect the clip that holds the cover on to break off - nothing you can do about that, the plastic goes brittle with age.

thanks for the help folks - replaced with nothing broken. £9 f*cking 50 for a bulb though...

As an aside, my drivers side dipped bulb doesnt have the plastic cover on it that's covering the rest of the bulbs... must have been replaced a few times before! :P

I once paid £10 for a main beam bulb, the brand for it was ring and it worked.
