It's not been a good period for my D8. The sump guard is now in the boot, and a car was ripped the aerial off (it's not in the boot too). Is it worth replacing the sump guard, and how easy is it to get the aerial back on? It looks like it's not meant to come off...

Sump guard?

If you mean undertray, there are several approved methods:

1). Stick it back on with tie wraps
2). Put it in the corner with a view to 1). (above).
3). Convince yourself it's better without
4). Wait till it snows and claim you lost it in a drift.
5). Gloat if you still have yours attached.

(I am a type 2 undertray-less owner. The rest of you know who you are)!

Can't help with the aerial, I'm afraid.

I was a type 4 owner, but an ungrateful one at that......see, I made a sterling job with tie-wraps and penny washers until my mechanic fetched it off and wasn't so fastidious at re-fixing

The snow claimed my beloved undertray and the car was rendered naked from that day on...in fact my relationship was never the same afterwards and we later parted company

The undertray has an important aero dynamic function so is better off being fitted that not IMO (keeps the engine clean too).

most cars dont have sump tray, throw it in the bin you dont need it really

i think im type 3, but can i add another type, never had it never missed it. If i hit the sump the large pool of oil will be a good enough indication for me, they arent impossible to fix.

I was a Type 5 until the first time I got under the car (a few days after I bought it ) and pro-actively decided to get rid of the screws/nuts+bolts before they rusted any more... Since then the zip ties have done a sterling job. 2 each around the subframe holes, and 3 along the front edge (you'll need to drill a couple of holes in the undertray but it's worth it).

This has stayed on through >150mph driving and 90mph off-roading so it's a formula that works (not lost a single zip tie in 5 years/over 100,000 miles) across my various 406s

Much, much, much easier to get the undertray on and off than using the proper fixings too...

150mph in a 406 obviously thats not a diesel one, what sort of motors under the bonnet to do such a speed

We neglected to assist young master Finlay with his aerial issue....

Neither of mine left the factory with an undertray, the HDi seems to spray water up into the aux belt so I'd quite like one. Actually I'd like the metal undertray option...

ive never seen any of the cars round the farm come with an undertray except this new hilux which comes with some toughened sump guard which is good for protecting the sump but i reckon its strong enough to take out tree stumps.

My god, so many tray stories!

I think I'll leave it off for now. I don't have a means to get the car up and get under it. I might see if someone I know can help me though.

With regards to the aerial - pretty much all the black plastic bit got ripped off. there's a small lump of metal sticking up from the roof. I'll take a picture at lunchtime in work and upload it for you to see.

Go for the coat hanger look, its slightly out of fashon but someone needs to bring it back.
