A common issue

Ive seen on my car, and more pronounced on a few others that where the doors meet the wings there is a wee twinge or some imperfection in the metal:

The picture isnt great but you can see where abouts it is, whats causing this, ive put a bit of touchup to keep it from rusting but what is snagging on the doors, ive seen it as a big gouge on one 406 and then plenty where its just a wee imperfection, is this something to do with jean claude driving the forklift too quick round the factory or did pierre not clip something in right.

Not too sure what causes it, but it isn't exclusive to Peugeots. I remember when I was looking round for my Zafira seeing quite a few of those with the same problem.

Is this not the thing someone was complaining about a lot on here before? To do with strong wind catching the door and blowing it open, really hard, and bending the metal?

Or am I mis-remembering something, as usual :(

You're right. It's the result of the door being forced open too wide and the check strap making its presence felt on the door metal

the wee yoke that keeps the door from swinging on wide is in good nick well oiled and screwed in tight i check it regularly because that clicking noises pugs make when the doors close is it being loose. So do you think at some point in the past its been opened too wide.
I find it hard to believe, almost absurd that wind can bend metal but then again im not a physicist.

Yep, trade mark of a 406 I'm affraid, mine had one (and the flake of paint missing).

Never really found a use for the look-how-wide-I-can-go-doors but passengers would be peeved at trying to reach the handle to close the thing from inside

I thought it was one of the hinge bolts which caused the damage, but yes caused by strong winds and slow hands. Just have a look behind where the dent is when you've got the door open and you'll see the bit that it has whacked off causing the damage. I've certainly got that on my drivers door, but it's a hell of a lot worse than yours!

It is the hinge bolts actually, well spotted.

I tried to recreate the damage once by carefully pushing the door as far as I dare but chickened out at least 40mm BEFORE the contact point

ah i get you now, the wind pushes the door when your opening it while stationary ie when your getting out, i was thinking ye all were on about the wind peeling the door back while i was driving along. Well thats genuinley good to know, has anyone ever fixed it or is a bit of touch up like what ive applied enough for the problem, ill also know this when opening the door.

I had a really fortunate escape with mine - the wind snatched the door open wide and would have caused an identical blemish, but the rusty chunk of angle iron that forms the front corner of my 1952-vintage Rice trailer stamped its indellible signature in the middle of the door skin, thus avoiding disaster.

Just lucky, I guess.

Ive got a little chip like that on my passenger door.Ive got fed up of filling it with paint as it keeps dropping out when it hardens and the door is slammed.
