hi everyone, my first post, but i have found good info on here for ages.
i have a 2.1 td estate,1998 r reg. its factory black and looks like a hearse. might be able to save a few quid when i pop me clogs. any way, i lifted the rear seat base the other day and found that there is a lot of rust there. there are grommets there, should i take them out? i have ordered some rust cure stuff and will rub down and apply. how did the water get in though.?
is it common to have this problem, and where to start looking to fix it.
cheers, doug.

Is the rust on the car body or on the black metal base of the seats? If it's only the seat base, this can be easily removed. The problem comes in finding another seat base that isn't rusted as most breakers have the cars outside & open where the damp can get in easily.

it seems to be a common place for rust to start, farmerpug on here had rust there on his 2002 model

hi, thanks for replies. the seat base has actually rusted badly and the floor is also flakey. i took it for a quote yesterday and was told about £350 to repair!!. not rusted right through yet but is in its way. :( i may have answered my question about where the water is coming from. i just opened the tailgate and got a surprise shower. i shall investigate drain holes etc. thanks, doug. this forum is great. :P

personally i wouldnt pay £350 to have it repaired

do it yourself, with sum rust stop liquid, before you treat it sand it right back with an electric sander..
