Whilst changing the rear anti-rollbar bushes, I found a hole in my Pug behind the sill, luckily there is decent metal around it so it shouldnt be too hard to patch. Quite shocked about how rusty my car is around the fuel tank. I need to spend some time waxoyling it, probably giving it a coating of anti-rust stuff beforehand to prolong the life of the beast. Any recommendations for a course of action?

as the car been near the Sea side, looks like its been Atacked by Salt,
iwouid get some Red oxide and give it a few coats,

Mines got like a Galvanised coat underneath the metal in places looks shiney

Eek! I have a feeling it'll be much worse once you scrape the paint off - that crack goes along behind the jacking point and there'll be more troubles under the bubbles. It's not worth planning until you know the extent of the problem, spraying waxoyle won't cure the problem, it'll stop it getting worse but it'll also stop you doing anything more about it.

It is worth saying here that although the 406 is not a 'rusty' car, or rather, you won't usually see rust on any of the panels there is a significant risk of rust to under-body parts like this. We've seen a few examples on seemingly mint cars which would have become almost terminal if not stopped in time.

You guys arent filling me with confidence, MOTs in April though so I've got some time to work with I have given the general area a good prod with the fingers and the metal does seem to be stable enough to weld and salvage even though it looks pretty bad. I really need to get this machine through the MOT as I've spent a fair amount of time and money fixing and replacing things on it

ive seen worse itl be reet with some wirebrushing and plenty of underseal ibet most of that is just surface rust and looks worser than it actualy is,

LOL, aye its definately a 406 (easy to indentify by its uncanny ability to make you believe everything is sorted...and then you need to fix something else ) Nah I can't be mad at it, its had a hard and busy life over the years and still costs me alot less than financing something newer and shitter After fitting a few new bushes around the suspension its actually been a real joy to drive these past couple of weeks. Unless something FREAK happens I think I'm nearly through the repair and replace stage...touch fake wood on the glovebox

On another note, my dad has a 93' 405 estate and the thing is flipping showroom condition underneath
