Decided to make a start on a thorough clean of the car tonight, with the first job being to clean out the door shuts of all the mank that's accumulated. When I moved to the top of the door frames, I noticed a nice big build up of dirt behind the big bit of rubber that runs along the roof.

Look what I found underneath:






This was on my low mileage, well looked after(ish) example. Imagine how bad this could be on some of the higher mileage hacks that are floating about. This could even be where Bailes rotten roof started off originally.

Hopefully I've found this in time to get something done about it, but going by what someone once told me about the only way to get rid of rust properly is to get rid of the metal, this could be the beginning of her end.

Anyways, now I've started us off, has anybody else got the same under their rubber, or could anyone share any other potential rust traps they might have found on their cars?

strangely ive found no rust on mine yet and its a fossil 99 v reg,
someones scratched the boot on my car the bastids
but ive noticed where theyve took the paint off right down to the metal its Galvanised underneath,

im thinking some 406s may of been missed out on some of this galv,
ive seen a lot of rust ones around just recently 02 -03 regs that look like old nissan sunnys

Found another spot today:

ive been lucky not had any rust or bubbles yet.
but every time iclean the car i do all the edges and door shuts aswell then dry it all off and spray it with silicone based spray (Flash dash) and wipe that off it leaves a film seems to protect it,


they dont look that bad on yours tho ive seen a lot worse

i have a bubble under the bonnet, which got waxoyled.
then mind under the passenger seat, only surface rust, i sanded and scraped it off, used rust treatment then galvanised and painted over it.
as for under that seal, i just checked there now (im very paranoid of the rust, i actually check every time i hear anyone on here gets rust in a certain area) alls fine, but it does look like the paints worn away, ill put a bit of touch up over the paint, caught in time.
watch the drivers seatbelt, you can scratch the paint when closing the door on it.

as for that rust, it doenst mean cutting it out if its just on the surface, if its surface rust sandpaper, or wire brush it away, then apply some rust remover on, wait a day, wash it off then put the galve over it, being under the seal some touch up paint would do.
