Aerial Replacement

Post by waue1978 »

Tried to unscrew my aerial yesterday & I think somebody has bodged it as the bugger won't come out. Have found a how-to for a D8 & I'd assume that my D9 with it at the front would be the same procedure, but what I'd like to know is, does the aerial lead plug into the base or will I have to feed a new aerial lead through the car if I replace the base?

on the d8 the lead is held to the base with a 8 mil nut

if you do need to fit a new lead i would tie some string to the end then when you pull it through you can tie the new lead to the string to make it easier

I don't need to fit a new lead as the radio reception is fine, but wasn't sure if the aerial base came with new lead built on or not. Sounds like it should be an easy enough job though if it just needs the lead bolted on.

Not sure - I ended up buying a new aerial & base from the dealer for less than £15. Only needed to change the aerial in the end - got some molegrips on the old one & it eventually unscrewed. Soaked the base in WD40 before screwing in the new one though.

I've found a lot of replacement aerials on ebay, found a nice looking stubby black bee sting type one but I'm wondering if it will fit? Think it said it should fit most with a 5-6mm screw base but the factory one isn't a bee sting one. But for a fiver I'd probably just try it!
