I was under the car today (2002 hdi 110 estate) and under the drivers floor area is a stainless steel heatshield covering some pipework,it seems like some kind of oil/fuel cooler.Any ideas as i'm baffled?

It's the fuel cooler, it's there to prevent very hot fuel returning to the, (plastic), tank.
