Hello all,

Are outer sills in short supply, unfortunatley my 406 failed it's M O T due to corrosion of the outer sills, the local garage cannot source either makers parts or pattern parts, any ideas please.

Theres none in Existence, as far iknow, the sills are all one chunk of the cars body, no seprate welds,

How big are the holes in the sills?

hi, mk1 cortina skin sill are a good match for the shape and you can still get them, worth a try i think

Haha, I remember that, what a ballache. My advice would be find a decent welder who can also fabricate his own stuff. I was fortunate enough to have a local guy with an excellent reputation. He fabricated a whole sill section on one side and welded it in for £100, a very good job indeed. The other side just needed a simple patch and wasn't as much. I did find a place with OE repair section sills in stock but they were something like £180 a side.

I work at car bodywork and i had to make/fit a sill to a 406 last year,stone rotten.
the boss charged just what he wanted for the job as over here nobody wants to weld rotten mot failures,its a real money maker for firms welding rotten cars.
My advice.....dont let it rust and get the inside of them sills waxoiled.they rot from the inside out.
I just got a 04 406 2 weeks ago and before the bad weather comes,its getting the wax oil in the sills

Yes definitely - Waxoyl, clear the drains, seal the clips & replace any that get damaged pronto!

Also get the waxoyl around the chassis box sections around the rear wheel arches areas.
They get crusty too. Fortunately they also have access holes possibly where the water gets in
to start with.

Is waxoyl the right stuff to use in the sills, i hear it can dry out and trap moisture between it and the metal, would waste engine oil if sprayed in be any good since it wont dry out?

for inside the sills i'm going to use bilthamber dynax s50 it get much better reviews than waxoil, last time i used a spray can of waxoil it didn't spray to well and kept blocking up.
