D8/D9 sunroof

Hi all

Is the sunroof the same on the D8 and D9?

Looking at changing the whole thing as mine is shot and sealed up with tigerseal, my local breakers has a D9 with a sunroof and quoted 20 quid for the whole thing

I just checked the parts comparing saloon to saloon, the lump of glass, guide rails, deflector and associated parts are the same but everything else isn't Motor, seals, frame, inner panel - nothing.

But the roof panel is the same

I found a R plate 406 breaking in a local scrappy so going to have a look today

I'm expecting it to be a pain to get out

take a stanley knife in with you and just cut a nice big square in the roof lining

Never thought to do that, cheers known me I would of spent an hour trying to get the roof lining off first

there will be about 8 or 9 13mm or 10mm bolts holding it in,

leave the 4 corner bolts till last just have them finger tight,

and remove the others use the seat as a prop for it to lean on while you lower the front, Move headrest up if it has them in ,

it will be heavy ish mate, so use the seat for support so you dont bend any of the frame work or just take apeice of rope in with you use the rope to support it
idealy you need 2 sets of hands for this or atleast you will when fitting it on yours,

(if you take a stanley knife to the yard, Make sure its kept in your tool box whilst you get in there, its an offence to carry a knife unless you can proof its going to be used as a Tool, hence the Tool box )

Just a thought but if your sunroof has been leaking for a while you might want to take the roof liner from the scrapper as well so stanley knife might not be an option. Also knowing how brittle the interior light plastics can get I'd nab that from the scrapper at the same time if it comes out cleanly.
More work at the breakers but at least you'll practise removing it all on a scrapper before you tackle your own car.

all sorted, I asked the gaffer if I could cut the headlining to which he said "Yeah if you want to pay for it aswell"

Needless to say I removed it properly, was a bit of a pain as the car was on top of another car so it kept rocking and unnerving me a bit

Yep it was 10mm bolts all round, I left 2 in finger tight, had the father in law with me and he held the rear in place, It actually looked heavier than it was

The hardest part was getting the roof lining out and in without snapping it

All working now so pleased

The scrap yard owner is most probs a Hoarder, (penny pincher)

the yards iuse,dont bother if you wreck the dashboards or rooflining,
if igo in for a Matrix iuse a hammer to remove it,

Most of the plastics and interior just ends up in the crushers so there not arsed,
