Wet headlining

Recently I have noticed some small drops of water on the drivers side A pillar (on the inside) after a rain storm, yesterday after heavy rain I noticed a couple of drops and when I touched the headliner in between the visor and the screen it felt wet.(top corner by A pillar)

I have looked around the outside and notice that the top seal on the winscreen is short of the vertcal side seal by about 20mm on the drivers side it looks like the seal has shrunk in length, is it pssible water could be leaking through here?

Is it a screen out job to replace that seal or can it be done in situ, or should I try to seal it with something like sikaflex?

I think the red hole is normal.

Do you have the green hole? (Although I think that might also be a red herring.)



My doors are bent. The passenger side is worse.

I get water appearing on the top of the sill.
If it's getting down the back of the door seal then it's getting into the diver's footwell, and that's when you need to get worried.

I have the gap at the red mark thats wher I thought it should be filled, will try and have a close look this weekend

I had exactly the same thing on my old D8, the sun shrinks them over time.
When I had to have a new screen the windscreen guy said it was pretty much a cosmetic bit of trim as the adhesive used to fit the screen acted as the main seal. He did fit a new trim for me but only when I asked for it.
That particular trim will pull out if the windscreen bonding hasn't got a good hold on it and the replacement just pushes in.

In your case I'd have a good look at the door seals or aeriel/sunroof seals which may be leaking and water channeling along the head lining towards the A pillar.

Oh of course Very common leak. Normally you get a puddle in the gear lever gaitor.

its not tthe aeriel as thats at the back on my car, maybe the sunroof or door seal its getting bad now due to 2 days of constant rain the headliner appears to me more wet at the A pillar and back to the grab handle over the drivers door, Its actually dripping wet, I have removed the A pillar trim and the cable which runs down the pillar is dry so it looks like the water is sitting in the headliner soundproofing or whatever is in there.
Can the headliner be eased away in the problem area without too much trouble? would removing the visor, grab handle and seal allow the headliner to be eased away for investigation?.
How can I tell if the door seal is faulty?
Anyone know how I can check the sunroof drains?

Sit inside and have someone poors water on it...or you can wait for rain

my D8 had leaked 2 times massively somewhere behind,becose when i showed up one day,i saw a puddle in the rear foot section,(behind front passenger seat)
it was when it rained pretty hard.
i was suspecting that rubber has a hole somewhere,didnt find it but to be honest i didnt examine it closely.

I tried that and you cannot see where the water is comming in and it takes a while for the headliner to become damp

Sunroof, I bet - blocked drainage channels? I think it was Sam (Bailes1992) that posted a how-to on clearing those out. If it wasn't Sam then I don't know who it was, but I know SOMEONE did. Damned fuzzy brain

found the sunroof drains on the A pillar the drivers side was blocked cleaned it out so now waiting for plenty of rain to test it out, did have a peep behind the headlining as well and theres a join in the sunroof drain in there which I suppose could leak if the drain line was full

Wasen't me, I had pictures of when my sunroof leaked though. It must have been doing on for years because when I dropped the headlining the roof support parts were rotten through which is what wrote off the car for me.

SORTED its had a good test this week and it would have soaked the headlining by now so unblocking the sunroof drain saved the day.
