Blocked boot drain?

Has anyone got an idea as to why when it rains I am getting water leak into the boot lid cover?

When I did the rear wiper motor work I took off the cover and lost a few of those grey poke through clip things - No idea what they are called to get more.

So anyway, each time I left the boot open after it's been raining I get tonnes of water pour out from here.



How is it getting in there (only the one side) and where are the drains (are they the large spaces between the lights and seal?)
The seal all looks in tact with no rips or anything otherwise...

My 306 was doing the same.
its been ok since ive ripped the wipermotor off and put a blank on the glass instead of the wiper.
ipresume it was getting in from the rubber seal.

check your pipe for the washer jet ain't got a hole in it

I'd go along with Lozz. The problem is why is there water getting behind that panel in the first place. I took the cover off of mine a couple of times when I was trying to work out why the key wouldn't open the boot & it was always bone dry in there. Wiper motor mounting sounds like the most likely spot for it to be coming in, but also as a long shot, check for any gaps behind that black & chrome strip at the bottom of the tailgate. It's only held on with clips & if one is missing or if it pokes out a bit, you could be getting water in through that.

Check the tail gate /handle cover too,

I've seen a fair few 406/306s with silicone round it..
Don't try to remove it mind there flimsy crapy plastic that cost 86quid to replace .. just check its secure
The clips on them go in to holes on the tailgate..

Mines now held on with 10mm nuts and bolts and rubber tap seals.

Did you sorted out the problem,my 406 is bone dry there,no leake whatsoever so it isnt factory fault i guess

There is plenty of fluids sloshing round in the back seat of my car but can't find a leak anywhere....

I took the boot lid off, put some water over the wiper seal on the window - it is not getting in through there.
I have a theory, but no real diagnosis and even then I wouldn't know just how the physics would work out.

Let me try to explain........

The lower boot trim (plastic at the very bottom) has a SLIGHT gap in it on the left side (haven't checked right side that being said).



IT IS my THEORY that the water travels in there, creates a puddle or what ever then with the upwards motion of the boot lifting it, it travels up...
I can see no other physical fault but that, so would love to hear your views!

Are the light cluster seals ok?

I'd call it slightly more than a long shot now. Have you tried hosing down where that gap is to see if any water makes its way in?

I have spread water over the back to see where it gets in but honestly... it looks deceiving...

The trim is held on with plastic clips.
So unless there's a clip missing icarnt see water getting in there,

I might be wrong though.
