Door Sill Rubber things

Post by Sonia406 »

BOTH my cars have suffered badly with this. Miss Pug had hers ripped off by my ex and this car, well, it was like it.
It just seems to of popped off 6 or so clips. Won't go back on, just keeps falling off.
Is this a common fault?

After a brief chat with rwb this morning I realize I need some more clips. Clips are now on order. I also understand these clips may not come off / out in one piece?
IF they do break into the car - how am I then going to recover the little blighters?

Yep the clips break, stupid design. The Coupe is so much better in this respect! There is definitely a knack to removing the old ones from the sill, I used needle nose pliers and twisted them out. I lost a couple into the sill but they go and lodge somewhere and don't rattle around, so I didn't worry too much.

Irritating job at the best of times!

So even if I do lose a few it's not as if they stay where they are, I can fit the new clips easily, even if the old ones have snapped off? Bought some clips this morning :D Can't wait for them to come

Correct, the old ones will just push through into the sill if you can't get them out. It's not an issue in terms of fitting. They are annoying little buggers though!

I carry a supply in the glovebox as i'm always catching me boots on the trim and snapping the clips,i never bother retrieving the old ones I just get a small Phillips screwdriver and punch them into the sill.

Mine were like this, popping out every time my foot brushed against it.

Decent bottle of superglue, spread along the length of the back rubber, pushed against the sill to stick etc.

Job done, not moved since :cheesy:

In fact it's quite a naff design with the rubber attached to the chassis - on the Merc, the rubber is attached to the door, so no real way the rubber can be damaged - i.e edward scissor hands look of the 406. - I suppose if required and if one found the right sort of door rubber - that for a double measure and probably decrease road noise - would be to get the rubber attached to the 406 door, so when shut, it meets existing rubber etc.

And for those who have seen Miss Pug and wondered what that white streak was under the drivers door .........

Dave thought it would be a good idea to super glue it... Was fine until the glue ran......

Anyway, ordered clips so will treat Pugster right
