O/S Rear door won't open..

Hi folks, just a quick question.
On my 406 2001 HDI Estate, the rear drivers side door locking mechanism has broken so that the internal or external handles will not open the door.
I have a part to replace the locking mechanism with but cannot open the door to gain easy access
Has anyone had this trouble and if so what's the best way of getting the new part fitted?

Sadly you have to be brutal,
Remove door card, use long screwdriver and a hammer and litterly destroy the door mech,
You will need some patience and perhaps some plasters .

I've only had that happen on a car I was scrapping so I wasn't particularly worried about the damage I did kicking it open.

I guess it would help to remove the seat that side to make it easier to get to the door, then after removing all the screws etc. use a couple of flat bits of metal bent at 90 degrees to pull the door card. Fortunately you have another lock to look at so maybe you'll be able to work out how to unlock it manually.

just an idea here/ if your local to a scrap yard, see if you can grab the door mech conector/s- and a lump of wiring off a breaker
then try plugging it in too you door mech, and feed it with 12v (power pack) hot wire it to ping it open,

just a thought as it might not be the door mech failed, it couid be a break in the wiring in the door loom,

Looks like it's the brute force approach, not a central locking issue, i pulled hard on the outer handle with a frosted shut door and felt something break

Have you got the door card off yet? If you felt something break then maybe the latch can still be opened by reaching in the door and pulling the rods and flicking whatever you can reach..??

Just a follow up. Door card off was a bit tricky with door shut, none of the rods operated the door latch so was stuck. Unscrewed torx screw from black part of housing, still didn't allow me to see much. Applied sharp chisel & hammer, smashed it to pieces (Carefully) and finally gained access to the lever that operated the latch.....door open! then replaced broken part with replacement item off eBay £15 quid all in. Oh and thanks for the comment somebody made about plasters...needed them too!
