Should an HDi saloon's boot lid have struts on, and if it should, does anyone have a pic?

My boot lid comes crashing down, and I can't see any struts attached.

I suspect they are springs under the parcel shelf

If they are the same as older cars there may be spring that goes between the hinge and the body possibly behind a plastic sleeve. I haven't really looked at 406 boots but there may be different locations for the spring to attach to make it looser or tighter..?

The saloons boots do have struts, at least i know the D9s have them
I couldn't find a picture, but this video shows where they are located.

If the strut is worn out the boot will slam down, although it will also do that if you fit a spoiler, there must be heavier duty struts for cars equipped with spoilers.

Looks like you need to replace both struts, they should be easily enough so see when you open the boot. Replaced mine on a D8 last year and now need to replace them on the D9. When there gone the boot will come crashing down with the possible loss of fingers. Got them on ebay from some guy in Eastern Europe, they fitted perfectly but i think they are a bit strong as you have to give a good push to close but still better than slamming down on fingers.

^Exactly what he said. Mine came from Latvia, Magnetti Marelli brand, perfect fit but the strut is too strong, when I open the boot, I can let it lift itself up as its too strong and violent.
Replacing is easy, just a need a couple flat heads for the clips on both ends, one end can be reached through the boot lining gap and the other end can be reached vie the rear seat side bolsters, just peel them back (Or take them off) and there is a hole directly for it.

It definitely looks the ones on mine have been removed at some point in it's life, so a new pair will be added to the list of things to purchase/do.

Might have trouble locating a forklift though.......
