406 drivers door lock

Hi there,

I have just become the proud owner of a 2003 2.2 HDI Executive Estate and have an issue with the drivers door lock. Somebody has tried to break into the car previously and damaged the lock which has now been repaired by the acquisition of a new handle and a change of lock barrell. However, the rods insde the door that operate the lock when using the key are missing and as a result I cannot lock the car, the remote plip has given up for other reasons thtI have not got ot the bottom of yet.

I am trying to determine if I can make something up with a bit of stiff wire or if I need to extract the rods from a breaker or even replace the lock mechanism, but I cannot find a diagram or anything to give me guidance. Hopefully there will be one of you guys than can advise on what I need to do.

Have tried my local breaker, but he was devoid of any 406's for me to cannibalise.

Any assistance would be much appreciated!!

Farmerpug has an excellent youtube guide on how to strip the doors down including the locking mechanism, can't access the link at work but will update later from home if no-one jumps in first.
There are usually a few members with breaker cars that may be able to help with the correct bits rather than a heath robinson effort that may let you down at a vital moment.

I agree with Gumby there, you could probably make up something with coathangers but I wouldn't depend on it, those missing rods won't be expensive anyway.

The plip probably needs re-synching. Ifr you post your location maybe there's someone nearby that can do that for you.

Quick update, went to local stealer to see if I could get the relevant parts for the door but was told "not something we stock but we can get them, but we have to buy these in bags of 10, and we can't split the bags".

So if you do find yourself in need, better find 9 mates that have the same problem :-)

Eventually found all the parts I needed in a different breakers, rod, clips and the window guide/ lock cover for £5.
