we'll I've had my 406 all of 3 days and some little scrote has already tried to break in
luckily my neighbour spotted them and scared them off but my drivers door lock is now knackered

when I use the lock the barrel does nothing apart from keep spinning round so I now have to use the passenger side

any ideas folks before I start dismantling things?

lock the door from the inside,

and keep turning the lock with the key until it opens,
try the oposite way too,

the 406 locks are fitted with a Anti-Razzle feature,so theives carnt break in.. the lock just turning after an atempt break in is normal,
its worth a try before fitting another lock,

LOzz is right, try to use the key both ways up, turning left and right etc, and things in the lock may just correct themselves and then work.

A bit of WD40 may help as a one off.

tried this but just keeps spinning

is there a diagram anywhere of the door mechanism in case anything has broken or come lose behind the doorcard or is it just a case of fit a new barrel?

Maybe the WD or whatever you tried to free it up with has worked it's way inside.

Also, not sure if anyone mentioned it but the lock will spin even with the right key of the lock is upside-down.

might be worth me looking into that too. no-one has mentioned that before
how do I tell which way up is correct ? I'm presuming it's marked somehow

Not that I could see on mine, I just thought it would be a good way of getting confused about the key working or not. Anyway, it's academic of the lock is working now.

i spoke too soon as it's just spinning again so time to strip the door down and see what's wrong

wd40 is not much good on locks, it just drys out,

perhaps a 3 in 1 oil in a spray form with a straw jobbie, (tesco's etc) might be worth atry,

idont bother much with wd40 anymore it seems to be a waste of money, its good at drying out moisure mind but as a lube its a fail,

I can't work it out to be honest as it seems to have a mind of its own and work as and when it feels like it

I've stripped it down and can't see anything out of the ordinary so I'm presuming it's wear and tear on the barrel
