Check strap removal - how to

I noticed that the breaker I've bought has lovely smooth non-rusty check straps unlike my rusty notchy ones that I have to grease on a regular basis.
Any pointers on removal and refitting? the guide on the toupe forum seems to be a slightly different set up to the saloon.
