Drivers side lock doesn't work

Post by PeterN »

My newly acquired estate (almost identical to my other one - including colour) doesn't have a working lock, the key goes in and rotates through 180 degrees but has no effect on the lock or central locking, the key will operate the central locking from the passenger door but the remote doesn't work either, no doubt a separate issue.

I know I'm going to have to take it apart and see but wonder if anyone has any idea about it, and the remote locking. I don't have a 70cm radio anymore so can't test the transmitter, the battery is OK.

The rotating thing is meant to stop a different key, screwdriver etc. from gaining purchase, once it beats the resistance of a spring the lock just rotates. This also applies to the proper key if the lock is stiff. Try soaking it with WD first (bear in mind that if the lock is upside-down, i.e. having been rotated 180 degrees already it'll spin until it's the right way up).

The plip might be unsynchronised, this requires PP and the pin code (if you have it...)

Thanks Steve, I will try the lubrication bit before I dismantle it. I now have my PP2000 operative but don't have the code, there is a handbook with it though so I suppose there is a chance the card will be in it.

Forgive me if you've already tried it, but you might be able to re-synch it just by turning on the ignition / pressing & holding the lock button for 10 sec.
(It's never worked for me, but you never know).

Just an update on this. I tried Steve's suggestion of WD40 but to no avail, gave it a good work out but still went round and round.

This afternoon I decided to bite the bullet and take the lock out, I carefully removed the door panel and freed the inner liner with a Stanley knife with a new blade so I wouldn't damage it to much, got it all undone and went in to get the key so I could see what was happening, inserted it in the lock, turned it and 'clunk' the doors all unlocked, I operated it a number of times and it works find, Steve was right but I didn't leave it for long enough.

The remote I have had no luck with, I have tried resetting the BSI but it still doesn't work, the remote battery is good but I have nothing to check it on to see if its transmitting, the PCB looks OK so I am at a loss. Does it have a separate receiver for the remote and if so does anyone know where it is?

I think the receiver is 'in' the BSI.
You probably are going to have to get the 4-character PIN code and use PP2K to get the BSI to (re)learn the key code(s).
If you don't have the PIN, it can be obtained from the VIN code, unfortunately not FOC.
Try Googling Peugeot or PSA vin to pin.

Just one thing to point out with regards to the rotating lock,

You need to make sure your pushing the key into the lock firmly when trying to lock / unlock it

I came across this issue on my estate when I misplaced my remote
I got my spare key put it in the lock & to my horror it just span round, after reading the handbock
I tried again keeping pressure on the key & bingo it worked, it will get better with some 3 in 1 worked into it :)

The fact that they don't get used because of the remote makes the grease dry out & the plungers stick
WD-40 is ok to free it off but dries the lock assembly even more ultimately

I also had this problem on my first coupe,
Same thing the seller said he'd had the remote repaired but hadn't re-sync'd it
He had been opening & closing the car from the passenger side as
(his words, the drivers door lock needs replacing, it just spins round & round)
Let me try I said, put the key in & pushing it into the lock at the same time as turning 'bingo the car opened & locked' :cheesy:

I have 3 keys. The first two work perfectly, on both doors. The third key can only open the passenger side door (not close it) and can only close the driver side door (not open it).

So i think it not the greasing but more because the key blade is worn a bit.

As the remote control is working, i use the third key daily.
