Looky looky what I just won
Been looking for one of these for ages
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... &rd=1&rd=1
Only came as very optional extras on only to top most trim level as far as I can tell, as they're rarer than hens teeth. (For the D8 that is, before some D9 owning smart arse butts in)

I remember replacing mine after I relocated the amps from the boot lid.... took ages to find another one and I got the entire boot carpets for like £10 result ! So instead of grey boot lining I changed to black ! Go Me !

Not really GLX onwards.
Every GLX I've come across in the Scrap yard and still on the road doesn't have this either!
I think this was the most optional of extras.
You're correct about me having a lowly LX (read bare essentials) though.

My exec has one but don't know if it was an optional extra like the rear wash wipe or not.

Does it actually do anything, this trim panel?

Just makes you boot look a little more tidy and clean. Gives your car a more executive look to I supose (only when the boot is open of course)

That was a test question bluey.
It's cosmetic AND acoustic. It helps reduce noise 'flanking' from the boot space entering the cabin.
Try it and I'll bet you will notice a slight reduction in noise. A bare metal boot lid plays havock with acoustics.

It also has a grippy bit, so you can close the boot without getting dirty hands
, or cutting them to shreds

My boot lid has a grip moulded into the plastic cover over the locking mechanism

Yep, my old D8 1998 GLX had the cover. To be honest, I didn't know any of the 406's didn't have it.
