Roof rail problem

The GTX has an infuriating rattle from the passenger side roof rail, looks like a spacer/bush is missing between the front support and the first section of rail proper.

Anybody swapped one? Will the headlining ever go back properly - or should we try bodging it by filling the gap with epoxy?

It's never likely to get used to carry anything.

I think there's some sort of pad meant to be there? All comes complete with a roof rail...

The repair Manuel implies it's all easy to get to once the roof lining's been removed

I'm liking the epoxy idea more and more.

Me too, specially as the car will be SORNED until July, plenty of time to set.

If you do find out if the roof lining needs to come out id be interested to know as I'd like to remove the roof bars on mine.

When I was stripping my old 406 executive, I did have a look under the headlining at how the roof bars are bolted on.

Surprisingly just a couple of bolts in each mounting point.

However, once the grab handles were removed, then the door seals and pillar trims, the headlining still wouldn't budge, turns out it was stuck fast in the middle - either glue or just the heat had made it stick.

Subsequently I had to gently* prise down the edges which was okay at the start but then just gave way and put a massive crease in the lining....

As it's the front one that is suspect then I would be tempted to have a peek under the lining, it's a good time to use an endoscope....
