Accidental sunroof breakage....

Discuss the 406's Bodywork stuff in here (what parts fit what, what can be interchanged with what etc etc).

Accidental sunroof breakage....

Post by GingerMagic »

Well it seems that despite my best* efforts to maintain* the 406, I've finally broken something.

I put stack of road barriers on the roof ready for Jubilee weekend and figured the weight wouldn't affect the sunroof, which was tilted up at the time - until of course I ratchet strapped down the barriers and put a little bit of strain on the sunroof.

Nevermind, I thought, I'll just close it but to my dismay the sunroof didn't actually close - it just made lots of creaking and groaning, clicking and cracking - and now it seems it's fubared.

Now my sunroof glass just lifts up, it's not held in place by anything, and the metal rods that tie things together no longer do so...

The runners also won't go forwards or backwards, something is jammed and to be honest I've never had a sunroof issue before ( other than the obligatory drain blockages )

So, if anyone has any pictures about what bits are supposed to go where then I would appreciate it - in the meantime I'll see what I can figure out. I'll probably remove the headlining but I'm loathe to go too mad as the MOT is due in a few weeks - pfft.

Cheers in advance.

Haynes is as useless as you'd expect - I still have a copy if it's any use to you or anyone.

Thanks Doggy - much appreciated.

I did manage to kinda gently* persuade it all to work just enough for the motor to pull the glass down and create a decent seal - I've since disconnected the switch so in my mind it's fixed :cheesy:

I may swap the whole shebang at a later date.

I'd called that fixed too - don't remember opening a 406 sunroof other than to search for leaks.
Bimmer doesn't have one, can't say I'm sorry.
