O/S Rear Door stuck

Post by deltahw »

It looks like the lock on the o/s rear door on my 1999 has given up the ghost - checked the solenoid for the central locking and the locking mechanism, but can't get any change out of it.
Don't really wnt to have to drill the lock out from the inside of the car if I have to.
Does anyone know if you can get at the bolts for the catch by removing the wheel arch liner and drilling it out that way?

Oh, my engine undertray fell off yesterday - would have been ok if I was parked, not overtaking on the motorway! Its completely gone!

If you want some nice tyres for a 406 that last, grip and aren't that expensive try BFGoodrich Profiler2s. I've got 195/65/15 H's on mine and they're great wet or dry.

If anyone's got any ideas about the door though, I;d really appreciate it!

Cheers

Welcome fella :cheesy:

No idea on the lock issue, that's the first I've ever heard of that. Can't you get the door card off and pull the connecting rod to release the door catch?

Ahh and the old 'Flying Undertray' trick, we've all had an 'experience' with undertrays on here for sure. It's all down to the pesky little rusty crappy fixings that let go. I've managed to keep hold of mine, but only after I fabricated some electrical tie wraps and washers to hold it on

I have heard of the profiler tyres before - supposed to be decent tyres by all accounts? I'm still running with my Michelin 'energy' on the front because they WILL NOT wear out

door lock

Post by deltahw »

I've had the door card off - even had a (decent) garage look at it (they thought it might fail the MOT), we're all stumped on it. Its almost as though the lock has broken after the connecting rod connector as the rod moves perfectly with the handle. You can even hear the lock "unlocking" with the electrics and when done manually. Utterly stumped by it. :?:

Michelin Energy tyres are great - more expensive than the BFG's though - do wonders for your fuel consumption though, so its worth it if you can afford the Michelin.

I've had the BFG's on a couple of cars and can't fault them at all - they do what you want from a tyre in every way (and they look nice with a directional V pattern). 8)

Heard a silly story a while ago about dodgy diesel - bloke has got a 2.2 HDi (would love one) and put some ungodly mixture into it to save money......... New diesel, tank, lines, injectors and about 15 hours labour later he's wondering why as it worked on his last car (old 405 diesel estate).

Can't help some people can you?
