Rear centre seatbelt

It's come to my attention that my rear centre seatbelt is bost. The reel is jammed so it won't pull out any.
I'm presuming it's going to be an MOT failure point (or could I just cut it off and claim there's no centre seat?), so any ideas how I go about sorting it without ruining the seat/back? I had a quick look but the seat back looks sealed

That's interesting. I wonder if you
must have 3 seat belts or 2 in the back?
If it's 2 then you could just take it out.

I'd rather get it fixed so I can carry an extra person when needed. It may just be something silly like a rusty pendulum (or however they work) in need of some WD40 love, but as I say I ain't got a clue how to get at it without slicing the seat open...

that is an mot failure, you would have to remove the seat and the belt for it to pass, and as you will know thats immposible as the seat is a 60/40 split, the belt reel is within the seat and is extremely difficult to get as without damaging the seat fabric/material, what has most likely happend is: there is a tilt mercury switch/inertia sort of lock within the reel, if it thinks the seat is anything but in the upright position, the belt will lock, so try unlocking the back rest and shaking it violently and then slaming it back into position, if this doesnt free it you will most likely need a new reel

I have expereinced exactly the same thing - the belt is locked solid. I will try the "shake it violently" technique and see if it works. Sounds like its a common problem

I just fixed it. Undo the lower belt mounting bolt let the belt reel in a bit and it will release and go slack. Re-fit bolt et voila, tres bon!

just so you know, if your mot arrises, and the seat belt is not fixed.....
then grab 2 childs seats.
the people doing the MOT are not allowed to touch them in any way if left in the car.... hehe
as this happend to me on my vectra, i was worried about my centre seat belt as it was broken, but i 4got to take out the kids seats, and when i went back they told me they can't touch them. so you get a advisory saying unable to inspect rear seat belts.... BONUS

though if the seat belt is jammed then you couldnt fit a child seat

its the centre one thats jammed aint it?? so if you put one either side, they cant touch the whole back seat, or you could bodge it in so it looks like its secure
