Bloody sloshing in the sills when I brake to a stop, sounds well crap

Never had it before but I know it happens on our cars, must have been from my 'scuba driving' this morning.

Parked it facing down my steep hill tonight hoping it will drain out.

Is there a proper fix for this?

(don't like water in the body panels)

All sills have drain holes somewhere along their length. These can become gunked up quite easily. If you get a torch and look along the length of the sill you will see the hole. Poke through the crap blocking it with a wire and presto!

The drain holes are near the jacking points. Over-zealous use of trolley jacks by tire-fitters (not all of them tho!) or bumping down curbs can fold the bottom of the cills over. I've got evidence on mine

The jacking point on the N/S is mashed a bit, I did think about this.

I felt around this seam and some water dripped out.

I might have to 'un-mash' the sill to find the drain hole.

Followed by some sort of rust prevention the moment it all dries out, otherwise next year the water will have a much bigger hole to run out of...

I did wonder if the inside of the sills are coated with anythng because I have a small lake sloshing around in a metal cavity

I think the outside of panels is galvanized but I'm not sure about the inside. Do they still make Waxoyl?

Yes they do, try halfords or e-bay.

Mine is doing exactly the same, i'll get it up in the air the weekend and have a poke about.

Question is, how does the water get in there to start with????

I think I'll leave well enough alone with mine. Sounds like a rust hazard though.

That dude selling the cheap SRi had rust on the sill. Could have been the same problem

I decided i coudn't wait till the weekend so have been out and done the job. The 2 drain holes in each sill are tiny, they were both blocked solid on mine and when i eventually got a very thin, sharp electrical screwdriver in, the water came pouring out. I took at least a litre and a half of water out.... which hopefully will put an end to the sloshing noises..

Had a go at the drivers side, but nothing came out so i assume it must be dry?

I think i am goint to invest in some mudflaps to stop all the crap being thrown up under the sills, and make a point of poking the holes out regularly from now on..(oooer missus)

Its been nearly a week now, and finally the drips have stopped, so has the sloshing.

I like fixes like this, free and worthwhile!

i had an idea couple of days ago refering to your water in the sills and my problem with replacing the rusty sill and someone else has just had that problem too......

i think the water is getting in through those sill protector clips .....you know the ones that snap off easily just by catching it with your foot ....when i bought my 6 those plastic protectors were already missing and the remnants of the clips remain with rather a lot of holes into the sill area ..........my theory is when driving water is being driven int othis area and running into the holes and either rotting the sill and or filling it up with water........

any further ideas on this let me know lol
