pug pranged!

Post by locoboy »

I Was away from home camping in Homefirth this weekend just gone and whilst i was turnging the car round in a tight pull in whilst the misses was in looking at some shoes (can you see where im laying the blame on this one?) i managed to drive my 98 2.1td into a 12 inch high metal post that was sunk into the ground!

Upon examination the post was too short to hit the bumper and managed to force back the lower valance bit by quite some margin.

So much so that the radiator assembly was pushed back far enough for the drain plug on it to be forced into the power steering / air con pump (front low down on the drivers side) and snapped the threaded boss off the rad spilling its coolant all on the floor.

I had also bent my power steering cooling pipes and the twin fan housing was broken and jamming the fan blades.

the metal cross channel that mounts the rad was well and truely deformed and the 2 rubber mounting bushes for the rad were on the floor!

All in all the damage behind the valance was quite extensive.

My keen eye had spotted a motor factors in Holmfirth during my walk around the town some 20 min earlier to i hot footed it back there where a very helpfull guy put me onto a local pug/citroen specialist.

Now i hit the post at 11.15am on the Saturday, i was in the motorfactors at 11.45 and i was recovered by the local garage at 12.10 and my new rad was at the grage waiting for my car by 12.30 when they towed it into the workshop :)

The mechanics were good as gold and replaced only what i asked them to replace and made good what they could from what was left.

The lower hose would not seal in the new rad given the extent of the corrosion on the metal end of it and they could not get me a new peugeot only hose until the Tuesday and i was due back in work on tuesday so they found a good second hand hose from another pug/citroen and lopped the metal end off it and spliced it into my existing hose and sent me on my way £275 lighter

Is it true that the lower hose is a pug only part? and is it really £60 odd plus vat?

I was expecting a bigger bill to be honest and was more than happy with the way i was dealt with, it just grieves me to have to pay someone to work on my cars! I have not put a car into the garage for the last 10 years so it hurt a bit but i was away from home and it needed doing

I have not had the front off since it has been repaired but i want to check the condition of the fan housing for my self and see if the blades are fouling the air con rad ( i think thats the front one?) and indeed see if the air con rad is damaged. Is it easy to get at or do i need to strip the front of the car off, ie bumper and lower valance?

Regards
Colin
