How do you remove the sun blind - mine won't retract

Post by Welly »

Driving home yesterday I heard a small 'thunk' and a 'flop' as the rear sun blind fell down and draped over the rear head rests.

The mechanism appears to have let the blind right out as far as it will go and now there's no 'spring' tension in the thing to let in roll back in and pack away. I've had to leave it gathered up on the shelf

How do you get the thing out? do you remove the whole parcel shelf? do you think I'll be able to repair the blind at all? I have a vision of non-maintainable parts, tiny springs, tiny grip washers etc....

Maybe I shouldn't have left the blind up for 2 years?

Can someone have a look on Service Pox for the list price pretty please? :cheesy: I've located one from Yeomans online shop for £43.82 inc vat. just in case.

Oh look, they're actually cheaper! :frown:

They're black or brown and you, sir, have a first aid kit :cheesy: My estates don't have them of course :| Hey, it's bust, taking it to bits can't make it any worse!

You mean you still didn't sign up to Service Pox? (PM me an email address forthwith)

Someone's swiped the first aid then :frown:

I wondered what the 'cubby hole' was for! I've never actually tought of anything to put in it yet so it lays empty :|

It looks like I've got to whip the speakers out, then the shelf tucks down below the rear seat backs and also the seat belts pass through the shelf too :? oh and the whole lot is held in place by snap-u-off fixings

What can you email to me then?

Well on Saturday I thought I'd have a go at fixing the sunblind, it can't be that hard can it?

Hey, let's rip out our interior.....
Those black 'bridge' bits below sort of catch the sunblind or retain it and guess what? they were fitted with "snap me off" plastic lugs
:frown:
Image
Right, that's the blind out now let's have a look shall we?....

:arrowd:

Be-Doynggggg.... the spring lives inside that black tube and is (was) bonded at each end but mine has come unstuck inside the rail..Image

The spring had come out of it's holder which is 'pinched' in the tube thus....
Image

Oh - there's the other bit I need down there...great! :|
Image

Needless to say there was nothing more I could do here other than put it all back together as it was (albeit sightly creased, worse, bits broken etc) and just put the whole thing behind me

The parcel shelf is an arse to get out and should require those corner bits of the seat back rest to come out but that means removing the whole boot liner to get to whatever holds them in place so I took a chance and forced the bugger out (sorry leather seat).

So, there it lies all folded up and nowhere to go....but, Welly has a plan, a bodge job, to leave the blind up in place but as tight as a drum.......
