Spare wheel well

Howdy folks

I have a seemingly common problem with yr 2000 406 1.8 sal.
Firstly, the spare wheel has around 4 inches of scummy water swimming around in it. I have read that this could possibly be the rear light cluster where i can see a gap to the bodywork.
another problem is that when i open the boot lid, the 2 plastic channels either side of the boot opening, are wet and also contain what can best be decribed as mud - i dont know if this is leaves mixing with water or actual mud as parking the car under trees on my drive does seem to catch dry leaves in nooks and crannys.

The car mists up like hell until air con has been turned on regardless of if its raining.
i intend to drain the water and then silicone the light custers but i was wondering if there could be another problem with seal around rear windscreen letting water into the boot.

any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Check the water seal around the boot itself aswell. You want to empty out as much water as possible too, so stick a sponge in the rear wheel well and start removing that excess water. I'd also clean all the run off channels/drainage holes as if these are blocked the water has no where to drain so will find the next path of least resistance, which could be straight into the boot.

Clear silicone is best on the top of the rear light cluster so the water just runs over now instead of down the back of the lights. As for steaming up. I guess its stuck in recirc mode. This happened to mine remove cabin filter and push flap back open and disconnect motor foe the flap. Cheapest option

Hope this helps,

If the spare wheel well is swimming, that's the cause of the excessive steaming
