Steering Wheel Woes.

Got to love the 406, it's started falling to bits each time, I shut the door.

Anyways this is the current serious dangerous issue.

As my seat is all the way back being a big guy a 6ft 8, I need the steering wheel extended toward me ideally, although I can still reach it fine when the column is sat against the dash board.

Problem is when you undo the plastic latch lock thing, the steering wheel moves up and down, in and out and it should the lock it, it won't move up and down but it will still over in and out.

It's if you push it in which a bit of force.

So for example, do an emergency stop and brace on the steering wheel or strech out on a journey and push your arms on the steering wheel and bang it collapses back into the inward position near the dash and with a tug you can pull it back again without releasing the plastic lever, this is dangerous as I could lose control in an emergency braking situations or on the motorway when I'm streching out.

Any ideas :(

Examine a similar animal at the scrappy - its probably part of the clamp assembly being worn, but break their one finding out how to do it 8)

As above, likely some bit(s) of plastic will have worn and need replacing. Couldn't tell you which though. To be honest, I didn't even realise that the steering wheel could move closer to the driver, I just thought it had up and down movement. Just been out to check mine and it moves in and out too, learnt something new today already! :D

Wonder if it's just a nut that needs tightening
