Discuss the 406's Bodywork stuff in here (what parts fit what, what can be interchanged with what etc etc).

body panel advice

Post by Col »

Hi

I'm after some advice on changing some panels on my 406...

specifically, the front wings and possibly some of the doors, which are all a bit beaten up.

Obviously there are loads on ebay etc, but I wondered if they were interchangeable between the different phases / marks

i.e. will a wing from a phase 3 fit my car which is a phase 1

Thanks

There's no phase 3 406... There's the earlier D8 (1996-1999, see the ooooold pic in my sig), and the facelift D9 (1999-2004) identifiable by the mesh grille.

There's been some debate about what panels are interchangable - bonnet, bumpers and grilles aren't, but the wings *look* the same from the side. Of course the bolt holes could have changed and the tops could be different to support the different bonnet... All I can say is "try it if you can get one for free"

no phase 3... gotcha

after I posted this yesterday, I had a good look round and got my head around the D8 / D9 terminology

has anyone tried to swap the doors then, or is that still an unknown ?

You'll be in uncharted territory if you try it... Be aware your existing door card will need modification
