If/When I get another 406 it will be a 1.9TD GLX.
I drop a 2.1 Lump with a Bosch pump on it and tune it.

Forgive me for sounding dense, but wouldn't it just be easier to buy a 2.1TD GLX?

Not really. 2.1 uses a Lucas ECU controlled pump. Far eaiser to just buy a 1.9 and swap the lump over. If I was going to tune a car tidy I'd want to build at least the top end of the engine anyway.

The 1.9TD is also ECU controlled, the ECU controls the advance of the pump. This does make a difference compared to non-ecu XUD'ds. It seems to be abit quieter on the motorway and smoother accelerating. I would much prefer to keep the Bosch pump ECU controlled which aint going to happen if I get a 2.1 and drop a bosch on it.

2 Litre HDi's do have a solid flywheel?
Thing is they also have marking on there for the crank sonsor to pick up. If you fit a 1.9TD Flywheel they won't have these markings and the car won't run.
Although people have started fitting GTi-6 Flywheels along with 1.9TD clutches successfully.

Well it looks like the car may now be dead. Cambelt snapped yesterday while travelling along an A road at about 60mph. Gonna try and get it receovered to a friends or back to mine and try whacking another belt on it. If it works, champion, if not well it's time to break it and get something new. I shall keep you all informed...

Oh noooo :( Sorry to hear that, HBC. Hopefully it will be alright with a new belt; fingers crossed for you.

I have had to delay my cambelt change on the Coupe til January, and I'm now getting uber-paranoid about it...

Sorry to hear bout this, i think this is one of the best 406's on here. Hope it can be fixed easily, if not first dibs on the lowering springs if you decide to break it ha.

Oh no, not another one :( I guess plastic goes hard in the cold. As it's a 2.1 I have a feeling you'll not get away with it
