There are configuration options in PP2000 for different tyre sizes, (at least when you're hooked up to a full mux D9), which I can only assume affect the road speed scaling, (which could be a BSI, rather than engine ecu calculation), but I'm betting the cruise algorithm needs to know the road speed.

(must say this is turning into a masterful thread hijack).
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

I know that the gear selection is calculated by the ECU as a function of engine speed and road speed, and cruise certainly needs this.

There is a rough "How To" on the Coupe Club, and there was a mention that someone attempted disconnecting the speed sensor fitted to the box. Apparently the speedometer still worked. Now, either it was using the ABS system as a backup and had logged a fault code, or it uses the ABS for the speedo by default. It was specifically mentioned in the thread that cruise had not been tested with the sensor disconnected. So the author fitted the sensor anyway.

Here's a comparison from that thread of the 20LM02 (ML5T - existing box) and the 20MB04:

Sorry for the thread derailment - perhaps a mod can split this off into a new one?

I see what you mean, (haven't been on the coop forum for ages, didn't reaslise it had already been done).

Intesting about the speedo working off the ABS sensors already. :o
Notice joost transferred the bits to make the road speed sensor work, but it isn't obvious to me whether it was actually necessary. :?
If not, the £100 6-speed 'box is potentially viable.

No, I don't think anyone knows whether it's actually necessary. So the people who have done it have transferred the sensor anyway. Cruise has worked afterwards, but whether that's due to the sensor transplant is unclear.

So, anyone want to volunteer to disconnect the speed sensor on their 2.2 HDi and check if cruise still works? :supafrisk:

If you spot any bits you want down this area Eric, give me a shout & I'll see if I can be of help. Even if I just drop them up next time I have a managers meeting in Welly.

We are plotting how to strap a 6 speed box to the 2.2 HDi engine, probably one that was fitted to C5s of the same era. Doggy and I both have 406 2.2 HDi Executives (in fact mine is Doggy's old one), and I'm looking to get my hands on a 406 Coupe with that engine 8)

Tried to disconnect the road speed sensor just now, I could see it but there's no easy way to reach the connector while fumbling in the dark.
Something will have to come off, probably the TPS / mounting bracket.

Speaking of which, I pass Chesterfield (Ade) coming back down from da Hud. He seem to have plenty saloons and estates in too. Will next be passing next weekend.

Current: 407 2.2 HDi 170 & C6 2.7 HDi.
Former: 406 1.9 TD; 406 HDi 90; 407 2.2 160; 307cc 180; 508 HDi 140.

Typical. I'd appreciate some pics if it's light when you give it a go (if possible), SB is not very enlightening in terms of assembly.

Thanks for giving this a go Doggy, very interested to hear the results 8) Very much hoping that the 20MB02 box will go on.

In the meantime I'm tempted to ring A5 Salvage and see if they've got a 20MB04, or indeed if they have any idea what I'm on about
