Re: My 2nd D8 1.9TD
changing steering wheel to my leather one
you will need a leather steering wheel . obviously . a 1/2" drive ratchet with extension bar and a T50 torx bit on a 1/2" drive socket . and a small ratchet with a T27 Torx bit

here are the bolts that hold the airbag on there is one on either side at the back arrowed red . i used a small ratchet with a T27 torx bit in the end

when you undo both the airbag will lower like this. dont pull it off cos there is a cable clipped to it . the 2 red arrows are the oly 2 bolts that hold the airbag on

unclip the oranage clip slowly

then remove the airbag

next is the center bolt which is a T50 torx bit. i used my 1/2" ratchet and extension bar for this and had no probs undoing it

the wheel will need a few bangs either side to loosen it.. and a big pull then it will pop off easy

then on with the leather wheel . simply bolt the center bolt in. clip airbag on. tighten the 2 bolts at the back and job done

Ithink the lag-splitters look good but there not a good fit from what ive seen,
better than some of the Chavy spitters about tho,
imight get another D9, just heard mention, of people are converting them to Xud pumps,
sounds tempting if thats true,

Re: My 2nd D8 1.9TD
serviced the 406 today. blimey it needed doing BADLY. the oil filters seal was really stiff and was leaking oil from it.
bottom engine mount is completely Ka-Put due to the clutch judder im guessing.
nice new oil now and fuel filter.
the fuel filter was really dirty full of tiny bits.
im guessing its been 2 years at least since it was last done going off the state of the filters. never seen them so dirty before

looking forward to next week. the car is getting a brand new valeo clutch kit fitted. a new crankshaft seal behind the flywheel and a new bottom engine mount
so far car will stand me at about £900 . thats a 1.9 xud with 164k miles in mint condition with brand new timing belt , water pump and aux belt . and a valeo clutch.
not a bad price really for what ive got so far with this one

Re: My 2nd D8 1.9TD
I've been contemplating getting a set of them. Got the Genuine Pug contour ones a while ago, but wasn't overly keen on them - think they probably look better painted, but I'm not too good with spray cans.Gary406 wrote:got miself sum rear mudflaps genuine ones. allready had front ones on when i got car with 406 badges on fronts.

If the car survives the next couple of weeks without pi**ing me off I might treat it to a set.

Re: My 2nd D8 1.9TD
well after fitting the rear flaps i thought i would remove front and clean them up . was full of dirt and soil build up behind them
anyway they wont be going back on. the metal frames are all coroded. these flaps have definatley been on the car from new.
so just put a bid on a set of brand new front ones . so will need another set of badges for those ones as well

Re: My 2nd D8 1.9TD
well. front ones fitted (flaps) and fitted front fog lights why it was sunny yesterday.
shes getting a 2nd complete overhaul on sunday 26th so it should be driving like new (hopefully)
shes having a new valeo clutch kit , crank oil seal (behind the flywheel) , brand new gearbox driveshaft seals and a new bottom engine mount .
since buying it in december 2011 with 164k miles on the clock its had some major overhauls. timing belt kit. waterpump and auxbelt allready done. droplinks all round.
and next the clutch. it should be good for many more miles .
glad i found this D8 1.9td when i did knowing it needed a major overhaul (clutch and timing belt) didnt put me off paying £500 for the car. (i didnt even test drive this car, as soon as i had a 10 minute look around i wanted it)
driving it home the 35 miles trip and found the clutch slipping still didnt bother me cos i knew i could make a good car out of what i had bought
now 3 months after buying it having it fitted with a new timing belt kit and waterpump & Brand new valeo clutch kit the car stands me at £880.
gotta be a great price for a 1.9td (in mint condition) for the year
