I know mate, i went to ECP and asked and they said a track rod was £15 each so i have no idea how they got the quote.

I want to get under the car and look for myself (try WD40/wire brush and a hammer) and do a bit of reading up on it.

Would heavily prefer to do it myself so will be looking into it

Also i remember you wanted to know whether the car scraped when it was lowered 40mm. I have only had a few dings of my exhaust when i had 3 friends in the car and a load of car stuff was in the boot but apart from that nothing at all.

I did mine myself.
You can either change just the track rod end of the whole trackrod like I did.

Cost me about £50 all in for the parts and tools to do it.

For a few days in advance give everything a spray over in WD40.

Undo the locknut behind the trck rod end and then undo the bolt holding the track rod end into the hub.
Hit the hub near the track rod end with a BIG hammer! It should pop out. Do not hit track rod end out of the hub as you may damage the taper it sits in :)
Image

Unscrew the track rod end from the tie rod. At the end of the tie rod theres a rubber boot. Remove this rubber boot.
You will need a tool like this...
Image

This slides down the tie rod and grips onto the ball joint on the end to undo it.
Once you got it undone prep your new track rod with some locktite...
Image

Then screw it back in hand tight, before nipping it up with the tie rod removal tool.

Stick the boot back on it (hold it together with tie wraps).
Fill the threads on the end with copper grease.
Put a little grease over the hole of the track rod end and screw the track rod end back on.
Bolt the track rod end to the hub greasing up the taper it sits in.
Once it's all bolting up, do up the locknut tight to the end of the track rod end.

Then take it for four wheel alignment

No, thhe inner track rods above are both the same thing :p You need a pair of one of the above (one for each side).
And you need to order these...

Got an sub for £35 pretty local to me.
Image
Hoping to get it wired up this week
Im thoroughly annoyed with the 406 aftermarket stereo layout. I found a DVD player/stereo online for £65 locally BUT the angle of the stereo means the DVD screen wouldn't be able to fold completely out. It would be at a slant so had to give that one a miss
