Thought I'd stay on this site even though I don't have the 406 anymore. Here are a few pic's of the car I replaced it with, a Pug 106 1.1 (60bhp) Zest 2.
As you can see, I've already been busy with the Waxoyl. The complete underside, as well as the arches have recieved another coat since these pictures were taken.
To Do List
Purchase a nice set of alloy wheels
Purchase and wire in a pair of front fogs
Paint rocker cover
Dent removal and respray of passenger side rear arch
Colour code side mirror covers

Cheers Gaz. You can't really compare them to be honest. The 106 outhandles and outsprints the 406 easily, Yes even the 1.1

It really is a blast to drive now that I'm used to the 106's characteristics again, the rear end will step out of line very easily if you want it too, the steering and seat position are (for my height at least, 5'8) perfect, brakes are good for normal driving and the 1.1 although small, has 4 cylinders and a good spread of torque for its size, much better than the 3 cylinder 1.0 107 I had a few years back. I really am over the moon with it as I didn't expect it to be as good.
Obviously it doesn't have the 406's comfort or refinement, but its a little hatchback. And as far as economy goes, the last £30 of petrol gave me an average of 61.2mpg

i must waxoil mine this summer.
for a 1998 d8 its pretty good underneith no real worry there so a wax oil will keep it going that bit longer.

Looks V tidy to me.
I had a Mk1 106 Roland Garros. It was a fun little go-kart.

I have an air compressor so I was able to apply it with a spray gun, at 100psi it comes out in a nice even spray

Compared the stats myself rwb, but the 106 is easily a quicker car to about 70mph. Like many of you guys, I also have a 'private road' where I can test acceleration stats. On this private road there is a sharp left hand corner leading onto a long straight before a long right hand bend. The braking point for the long right is a sign post. At said sign post my 406 HDi 90 could reach 95mph, lastnight my 106 also reached 95mph but the acceleration to 60/70mph is easily quicker than the 406, its only when you get past this 70mph mark that the 406 will start to catch up and inevitably overtake with its higher top speed

Alrite guys, time for a few updates. Been busy lately getting bits and pieces of the car tidied up.
The main item was to get the dent at the rear passenger arch pulled out and resprayed. A great job as you can see.
Next, I decided to get the wing mirror covers sprayed to match the car. (those aren't scuffs, just dead insects)
Replaced the battery with the one I bought for the 406 a few months before I got rid, just squeezed in and no more.
K&N filter which I originally bought for our other 106, cleaned it out and swapped it into my own.
Wiper arms, gave them a wee respray this evening, five coats of Hammerite.
I've also acquired a set of alloys, currently away getting soda blasted, should have them back and painted by the weekend
