An entirely unremarkable 406

Post by rwb »

Here is (the outside of) my 406. Make me an offer

It has a front:

I would like to point out that the smashed trim on the front corner was done while I was shopping in Tesco in Slough.

Actually, I really need a whole new front bumper as its cracked at the passenger side; it is now glued and cable-tied onto the wheel-arch liner :x

However, I think that Tesco should at least send me £20 for a new piece of trim -- every little helps.

And yes, the aerial is wonky. I have a replacement but not the confidence to change it.

And a back:

The exhaust is wonky since I got a new back section welded on.

Well it had a good day today. :D

Went to Birmingham, and chauffeured my boss -- so foot down and no hypermiling.

240 mile round trip, cruised effortlessly doing 65--80 at 2500--2800 rpm. That's what diesel 406s are for, and they're really good at it. :D
Computer says 47.9mpg, so that should actually be 60 as it is consistently inaccurate by 12mpg.

Quiet enough to have a sensible conversation, air-con worked (I've never had it re-gassed in six years), and downright palatial compared to the boss's Prius.

My only complaint is that it really is quite unpleasant trying to drive it round the small roads to get to the motorway; you can throw it round the corners well enough but its always falling off boost and its a bitch to get moving again.

Up at 70 (rather than my more usual 56) you collect the tailgaters -- and its definitely Audis and not BMWs now.

435 mile round trip to Salford today.

Does anyone else find there's a lot of wind noise above 80?

Who plonked those split a/c condensers on the floor outside your works? that's a poor location where the machine can be constantly nudged by heavy cars

Sorry, it's an area of interest of mine

Nice motor btw :cheesy:

Maybe not the best location, but they've survived at least 5 years. The one on the right has a pole in front of it. The one on the left is the critical one though, as it's for the server room.
