Well he let me have a go in it when I went to get my clutch etc. It's a 2.0 136 and the way it pulls smoothly well past 4000 rpm is impressive. Although I do enjoy the old kick in the back from my fixed geometry turbo.
Then it was at Pugfest last Sunday.
Although the exterior bares little resemblance to the 406, it's different inside. It's light and you can see out and it has a familiar and comfortable feel.

There's a cheap 2.2 HDi on Auto Trader at the moment. There'll be summat up with it, but I'm tempted to go and find out what...

Thanks for the comments on my 407, we do look after it ....I'll be happy when I work out how to use the planet to configure the new MFD (my wife will also stop complaining...for a short while ).

Cam belt replacement soon, it's almost done 80,000 miles, listed as 160,000 or 10 years, but I'll be ignoring that.

I cannot see any car past 05/06 lasting as well as older cars did.

The HDi90 should see you well with regular oil changes! Parts are cheap, they are amazing on fuel and now you've had the clutch done theres nothing else that expensive to go wrong.

If I was you Rich I would get it mapped! Best thing I ever done to mine.

Some good points in there. As much as I do like toys, I have to agree that none of them are necessary. The thing with all the 'safety' electronic paraphernalia is: to what extent does it absolve you of the responsibility to drive safely? Shall we apply that logic to ESP? ABS? Brake servo?!

The comments about rust protection are frightening, because we can't know for 10 to 15 years whether it's true.

Seeing what we can do with Planet, and the astonishing success reverse-engineering the ECU I'm not sure mux is something to be afraid of per se.. Sure there's more electronics on a 407, but is it more complicated?

Well I've swung back in favour of keeping it... until the next 407 turns up. I do want a 407... but I want the money more

So: cat smashed and lose a box out of the exhaust (as midsmike suggests), a remap, and sort out the passenger door. I think I was the shabbiest at Pugfest, but not as much worse as I thought :p
It probably does want want some tyres.
So that's going to come to the best part of £1k

Now that's interesting. The back box is new (i.e., I once replaced it), and otherwise it's all original. But is a cheapo mid section going to have rusted away in 18 months?

Washed and clean? Only just!
The carwash man was at work last week, so I thought better late than never. £15 inside and out. I'm astonished that I do a better job myself! The tops of the window glass have muck round them, and the door rubbers are still full of silt. He's also dressed all of the interior plastics so now everything is slippery and I have to wash my hands all the time. Nice dressing on the tyres though.

I ought to have a new wings, bonnet, bumper, passenger door, and rear drivers side door. But then how much is left of the original car?! It feels wrong to change so much.

T.B .H I don't know how long they will last, but my experiance of cheep systems is they rot where the silencer is welded to the pipe work, so with these we should'nt have that prob . I don't know why they are listed as cat repair pipes, but the first one look's like the one I have looked at the other two look like they might replace the cat/downpipe section too, but I'm guessing by looking at the pic's
