Post by Gary406 »

well i think i'll start a new thread since i now have my 2nd D8 ..

heres it as i bought it . few jobs to come over next few weeks including my 16" vulcan alloys (once all droplinks/ toplinks and 4 wheel tracking has been done so my brand new tyres wear evenly)
fit my leather . new timin belt, aux belt and water pump . might fit my fog lights as well :cheesy: and what else ? who knows :supafrisk:

ye it is very very clean ste . to say its got 163k on the clock. and its 1999 model. its much cleaner than my 1998 d8 and thats got less miles on..
i only paid £500 for it
it does need a few jobs doing on it (new belts and waterpump) which jasper is sorting for me on saturday
and the bighting point on clutch is quite high

but that doesnt worry me . if i have a new clutch fitted and timing belt the car will stand me at around £850-£900 which i think is pretty good for a d8 this clean with all belts and clutch done

also the rear end sounds like its gonna fall off over some bumps . a lot of play in both rear wheels but MOT advisory from april is rear tie/bar rods have play in ball joints and pin/bush
so a few toplinks and droplinks should hopefully sort that out cheap enough as i can do them myself

so after a few hundred quid it should be pretty mint ..

left indicator is faulty it flashes fast sometimes if you hold the stalk down with a little force. there is a lot of play/movement in the stalk so i think my spare out my old D8 will definataly sort that fault out ...

and antoehr good point . this d8 has much much more pull power than my old d8. i always said it felt really sluggish. after driving another 1.9 now i know its well underpowered :?

cant beat having a spares car really to grab parts off when ya need them ... saves messing around in scrap yards :D

fault finding on the clocks update

removed my clocks 3 days ago and found a couple of dry joints on the circuit board, anyway i put them back in and fault was still there. so i then changed the speed sensor on top of the gearbox which didnt fix the fault either.

anyway thought i would remove the clocks again only this time remove the section that covers up the dials and not just the circuit board,

anyway i found this (missed this the 1st time i took them out)

as you can clearly see. cracked joints on all 4 pins . these 4 pins push onto 4 holes on the circuit board when you put them back together
you can probably work out that this is the motor on the back of the MPH dial itself
Image

and here is a huge gap were solder is meant to be

Image

will find out in a few days if soldering these points has fixed the fault of the speedo not working properly. but i can bet that it will fix it
