My new HDi...

Post by Bailes1992 »

Had a Peugeot 406 as my first car and was hanckering for another!
So with my Uncle getting a new car, I thought I'd sieze the opportunity and nab his 406 off him!

It's a Peugeot 406 HDi 90 rapier.
It's only 90bhp but if you learn to 'ride the torque' it actually picks up really well!
Did 550 miles today and averaged 48mpg with a little thrash over the heads of the valleys.

Only few niggles I can find is that the steering wheel dosen't sit centre in a straight line and theres a steering wobble when braking.
So all it needs really *touch wood* is new front brakes and steering allignment :)

The bodyworks abit tatty (much like my Focus), but the interiors MINT apart from a rip in the drivers bolster and a missing rear ashtray.

Plan over the next few weeks...
Good service,
Get my radio in,
New front brakes,
Wheel alignment.

Longterm Plan?
I don't really know.
Maybe a remap,
Maybe abit of lowering,
Might even get the bodywork sorted.

Looks in good shape, welcome back to the fold!

A set of white dials and a quick respray of the centre console panels in silver would set off that dashboard nicely, I reckon 8)

Handbrake holds on 3 clicks ;)
Well happy with that!

Grasmere... That would be Amazing! It's the one bit of the interior that really lets it dow.
Where you from?

The paintwork as lots of peeling going on where it's had bad resprays and theres abit of rust on the bonnet. But it looks alright from far away

The front seats is all I'd be interested in. But if you need to get rid of them I would happily take them just for the front seats

AHA! A fully MUX 90 with a 5-clock dash!
What does ServiceBox give as the part number? I think it should be 6104 YQ.

Current: 407 2.2 HDi 170 & C6 2.7 HDi.
Former: 406 1.9 TD; 406 HDi 90; 407 2.2 160; 307cc 180; 508 HDi 140.

Have you started saving for the inevitable COM2000 replacement yet?

After much touching of wood, I would just like to point out I have yet to replace:

the inevitable COM2000
the inevitable lift pump
the inevitable front springs
the inevitable DMF
the inevitable drop links
& the inevitable engine mounts

though I do have to sort out the inevitable handbake for this month's MOT.

Both my 406s have had issues with the inevitable anti-roll bar droplinks (Coupe getting hers done this week hopefully)

None of the other issues (though the Coupe handbrake just isn't as good as the one on the old Saloon was). Will be replacing all the brake discs in the next couple of months and fitting braided brake lines and GreenStuff pads.
