The Dogmobile's New Home

Post by jonsowman »

So, I (or rather my father) have taken over ownership of Doggy's 52 plate 2.2HDi Exec. I know you've all seen it before, but a few more pictures can't hurt.

Plans for it? Firstly, the key needs a new cover since the rubber buttons are falling off. At the moment there's no spare key, so I might look into getting a pair from a scrapper and recoding them since I've got PP2000 on the way. Might redo the chroming on the door & tailgate mouldings, and touch up the paintwork on the bonnet & bumper since they're a little stone chipped.

In general it doesn't feel like a 190k car, but it'll have an easier life from now on (more like 12k a year instead of the 20k that Doggy was putting on it). Clearly been mechanically very well maintained and I plan to keep that up - short service coming up soon. Passed MOT on Monday, and should be good for several more years.

I'm sure I'll be along soon with questions. In the meantime, thanks to Doggy for all his help.

You can't on a D9 unfortunately, but you should be able to get a replacement blank transponder and recode it, i think it's a Philips ID46 thats needed, i have one to try but my Estate has been in the workshop for the last 3-4 weeks so i'm still waiting to code it

Cheers guys.

nutski: So should I get a spare key from Ade/eBay and replace the transponder? Am I right in thinking this is only for the immobiliser and the remote locking can be done by putting it into the ignition and holding the lock button? Would I need to replace the transponder in the existing key as well?

If you got a spare key from Ade so you have the transmitter, get blank blade from your favourite locksmith or eBay seller and then also a transponder, you don't need one to replace the current key, just a blank one for the new key, also need the 4-digit key code that originally comes with the car, knowing what Doggy is like you probably have one in with the handbook :)

This is a little hypothesis as i have all the bits except my code but haven't hurried to get it as i need the car back first, once i do i'll make sure this does all work properly.

Driven this and it is a superb motor and Doggy's kept it mechanically perfect!
It's annoyed me massivley because after I gave up looking for a tidy 406 and bought my Mondeo, Dai's and Doggys have both come up for sale

That's a very kind offer, here's a pic of my blade:

Are those the same as the ones you have? I know there are other styles such as the more rectangular one.
