The New 'Dogmobile'

It's taken ages to get a decent day and a relatively clean car simultaneously, but finally........

May I present, for your delectation and delight, my recent aquisition, which has been christened, "Nitric", by my one-time chemistry student bro.

You may recall I bought this about 4 weeks ago, with a dpf additive fault. Needless to say, the FAP is now history and it's currently running the same 180 bhp map as it's predecessor.

I'm slowly working through a disappointingly long list of niggles. :|

Sorted to date:

De-FAP / remap
Auto tailgate wiper, (comes on with front wipers on selecting reverse).
Auto wipers re-configured correctly, (suspect I messed this up when setting up the one above).
New tailgate wiper blade.
Air and pollen filters.
Drivers seat heater switch melted - replaced with one kindly donated by V6Exec. :D
Drivers seat height adjuster linkage re-attached, (it just clipped back in). :?
Handling........

Finally checked tyre pressures yesterday........
NSF 21 psi :frown:
OSF 28 psi :|
NSR 24 psi :frown:
OSR 12 psi
Set them all to 35, needless to say there is a bit of a difference.
I also fitted Plod's strut brace, but it may have to come off again for some more fettling as it doesn't clear the DW12 acoustic cover by much. Anyways, I haven't really evaluated the handling properly, but the coming week will determine how good or otherwise it is now. TBH I'll be happy if it feels as surefooted as its predecessor.

Still to sort out:

Knackered COM2000
Spongy, confidence-sapping brakes - it stops fairly quickly. but just doesn't 'feel right'.
Turbo-lag. Flies once it's made its mind up, but there's more of a delay than there should be, (probably a vacuum system issue).
Chipped windscreen - (repairable).
A minor front wheel balance issue, (I'll have to buy some tyres, or maybe some wheels / tyres, still pondering).
Lousy audio - occasional 'bangs' when playing CD's and really awful radio reception, (think I'll try an aerial first, then check the rest when I get to the phone, see below).
Some trim clips missing that should be holding the seat ecu cover in place.
An oil change etc.
Phone install - my last Nokia kit was OK when linked to cradle-mounted phones, but via bluetooth it was utter crap. Suspect I want a Parrot setup, but don't know enough about them yet, (Santa may oblidge).
Some decent looking plates.
Replacement HDi badge, (some scrote's had the 'i').
I may go for a custom remap, (£££), if the rest falls into place without too much grief, (which decision will affect wheel / tyre choice and so on).

I had misgivings at first - the dogmobile was a hard act to follow - but this one's growing on me. It'll never be tidy enough to win any prizes but it has the potential to be very entertaining for relatively little cost, for a few years yet.

We'll see.

Looking very nice. Glad the seats are fixed :)

Wheel balance on the V6/Turbo alloys (no centre hole) was a major headache for me, and will continue with the Hoggars I have on the coupe. The adaptors you get at normal fitting shops do no work that well. Might be worth swapping the wheels for alternate alloys when you get the chance, or insist that when the wheels are balanced they put them back on the machine rotated by one hole to confirm the balance.

Yes, I thought so too, was hoping to compare, but as you say in the dark and rain, it wasn't so easy.

There has been a marginal drop in diesel prices since Friday, (£ 137.7/l @ Asda), means I just managed to fill it up with the £99 allowance the pay-at-the-pump system allows. (71.6l = £98.59 what a bargain).

Thanks, everyone.

Sounds like its coming along well Doggy!

With the turbo lag, it's a long shot i know but mine was a bit of a slouch but like a rocket as soon as the turbo kicked in, was really strange but just ended up being the throttle cable needed adjusting, now it's lethal :)

I might have a spare Parrot at home, need to check my spare room and see if i've still got it and it's complete

Would be interesting to see if a custom remap is better. Read this rather interesting article over the weekend....

I've read that article before and it's very interesting even if a fair amount of it goes over my head!

A custom map in my experience is better, my 2.2 doesn't die off at 4k it will keep accelerating to nearly 5k now, some people only look at the speed and acceleration they receive from a map and not the overall picture of the longevity of the engine though which makes it hard to justify to some.

This is exactly the case with the "180" map that is going around recently. Looks like a computer just found out where the torque limiter was and modified it, then threw some casual numbers at the calibration maps...

Eric, the interior is LOVELY! I really want a light leather interior badly
Also a working type C display: very nice.

As for the "BANG!"s, the culprit usually are bad earth joints in the radio housing: pretty easy and fast to fix with some soldering iron and a couple of wires. Well covered in the coupé forums IIRC.

Uh, and those 15"... give it some Tacomas! (or at least some hoggars / nautilus) 8)
Give that exhaust some polish, it'll look as new in 5 minutes!

Body wise it looks very neat, loving the Executive badge, we don't have it in Italy apparently.
