Waxman,
Just spotted something cool about your motor, You must have one of the only orignal working fuel filler cap's on the forum 8)

^^

Do these have a tendency to self destruct then ?

Re the soft brakes, I had new discs & pads put on yesterday and new fluid - they feel a lot better.

that bottom radiator hose is a whole different ballgame - what an absolute naff design. - Finally managed to get the bottom hose sealed - ( new rad and new bottom hose fitted ) - Before it just kept leaking out in small drips, a couple of times just popped off. grrrr

However sealed, tested by running up the engine..

Just been on a 15 mile run and the coolant light has come back on ( fully filled up and air released before we started the trip )

It has had a new head gasket fitted about 10,000 miles ago, - so may go and get a pot of radweld if it carries on - possibly a leak somewhere but last few days have been a nightmare with the hose  - Why didn't they just do a connection like the top of the rad !!

Yes they do have a tendency to snap off the plastic lug that springs it out!, just search filler flap on the forum :cheesy:
re: you coolant light is it loosing coolant or is it a faulty sensor  , quite a common problem so I beleive

Slowly getting to understand Peugeot sensors...

Brake fluid low/ engine light on all rather random etc etc.

Filler cap is original I think : )

No, think there is still a small drip lean from the bottom hose - the way it seats is not a good design, a simple hose with jubilee clips would have sufficed - I may have to mod it..

Are there any existing modifications for this setup at all ?

Thx

Waxman,
Try asking jasper5 re: bottom hose he's very knowlegable.
I personaly don't know yet  but I used to have a citroen zx which I fitted a new rad to. I.I.R.C it had a daft 1/4 turn hose coupling which had a o-ring in it, I fitted a new o-ring smeered with red rubber grease! Job done :cheesy:

Firstly, welcome to the forum, pleasure to have you here.
Secondly, it always depresses me when I see any peugeot in that kind of state, looks like although it was absolutely filthy it had also been stood a while?
Thirdly, I take my hat off to you Sir, all that work, all that cleaning, tidying and well done to you!
Interested to know your method when removing scratches... I have a few myself which REALLY annoy me (ex rental car mine is).

I really am, in complete awe at your time for dedication, bringing this Pug alive again, seriously, well done to you, be proud of your efforts...

P.s I've let my cars standards slip for about 3-4 weeks now, fancy doing mine too?

Looking forward to more pictures of the progress

Well,

Seems that a year has passed since I opened this thread. To be honest, bar a few random leccy gremlins ( got used to em now ), the 'RS' has performed everything it's been asked to do without incident and flying straight through the MOT a few weeks back. The coolant level has sorted itself out, it finds it's level and just under the sensor point. Pain in rear but nothing I worry about at all. Keeping an eye on the temp gauge through last year pretty much says absolute no issue at all. - A 'characteristic' let'a call it.

Still try and keep it clean, Not bad considering she's pulled near 250k miles  - Still giving an average 52mpg

Cheers J

You worked very hard to get it like that - well done to you. Always nice to see a 406 being looked after, or brought back from a very sad, sorry state.
