Ouch!

On a brighter note, with that there MFD, it's just a question of prodding the two buttons either side to set everything.
(Can't honestly remember which does which as it's about 6 years since I touched one, but it wasn't difficult).

Keep up the good work. 8)

I'll give it a go tomorrow. As for the radiator and hose, I've seen some bad car design in my life but this has to be one if the worst I've seen. It's bloody atrocious, who thought push fit water connectors on a car would be a good idea.

Just wait until you need to change a rear abs sensor, or remove the lift pump.....
You will learn new ways to string together swear words...

Well all I can say is I'm very surprised. After phoning ecp GSF and Peugeot yesterday afternoon and none of them being able to get me a bottom hose, I found one on eBay for £28 with free postage. Pulled the trigger and was expecting a fair wait but this just arrived.

Looks to be pretty good, I'll bung it on and see how it goes.

Following on from earlier.

The new hose fits, just. It's incredibly tight over the top fitting but with some persuasion it went on, and the bottom fitting actually seals.

Bleeding the system is a bit bloody long and drawn out with three bleed points, but I got there eventually.
Also I found a rear wiper arm at a local breakers and managed to sort the clock and temperature display.

That's a good result, those lower rad pipes are like rocking horse poo.....

Thing is with the older 406 (and other cars to be fair) is that the owner puts off one little job, then something else crops up and that is put off too - before you know it the list of problems is huge and the owner decides to sell. New owner has a bargain, and a good basis for a project given a bit of time and determination :cheesy:

Good work so far.

Thanks. I think that's all the mechanical stuff sorted out, going to start on the bodywork next. I'm struggling to find the bit of trim on the tailgate above the number plate and the paint work is a bit of a mess. Although I have sorted the steamy headlight, and changed the fuel filter while all the pipes and cover was off.

Well I had set the weekend aside to give the GTX a bloody good clean but it looks like the weather has other ideas

Another update. After the bloody thing chucking 2lt of water out the other day and replacing the broken seal in the expansion tank cap I was still not happy with how it was. So today I took the thermostat out and placed it in a pan of boiling water, it only opened about half what it should. So a trip to ecp and a new one was fitted. I went through the bleeding nonsense again and hopefully things will be sorted.

Hopefully that's it sorted now.
I remember the frustration and nagging doubts about airlocks from changing my water pump about 3 years and 70k ago -
which means it's due again soon. :frown:

I feel like such a child, but I saw this on a local Facebook selling page for £5 so I bought it.

Not sure where I'm going to mount it yet, most likely just under the cruise control button.

Qu'est-ce que c'est? :?

If that's a boost gauge, I'd keep it out of sight, I understand the millennials tend to 'Blutoof it t'ya fone'

Yeah it's a boost gauge, as for the Bluetooth nonsense you can't use your phone while driving so seems a bit pointless? Like I said I think it's going to be going under the cruise control button on the drop down panel that covers the fuses.
Anyway I gave the GTX its first wash in 4 years, sitting under a tree for all that time certainly hasn't done the paint any favours.

It's going to need a going over with a clay bar then I'll get the dual action polisher on it.

Well I thought everything was OK but I'm still having trouble with the bloody thing. The bottom hose is leaking and won't seal, I've tried a new seal still leaks a bigger seal and it still leaks. It's just a piece of sh*t design, who thought a push fit connection on a radiator was a good idea. I'm just glad it's not a car I rely on.
