Hi all,

I'll post pics of my SecSpec 406 build here I guess.

Starting out with the body repairs obviously, then through panting, suspension modification, wheel fitment, interior, ICE etc etc

Should be an interesting journey...

The day I got it:








Pulling it apart, it doesn't look that bad.





Today, further pulling:






Next week it's going to the smash repairers to get straightened out, then i'll need to source a few new panels, get the front end back on her, then it's going for paint.

I've selected a very dark red pearl, will look black in low light but in direct sunlight will show red or even pink. Interior will be trimmed with black leather (full retrim, not leather pulled from an SV).

Wheels will be 20" B-Boss Elenor, like this:



The 406 will be lower though, so the back tucks over the wheel.

Stereo will consist of what I have in my 405 at the moment, (Twin Polk MOMO 10" subs, Cadence/Kenwood Amps, Polk DB6500 splits all round) however i'll be adding a monitor in the dash and in the headrests for the rear passengers, as well as a 20" monitor under the bootlid.

All this has to be done by September next year, so I can enter the car in AutoSalon (www.autosalon.org). Should be quite a project!

That's a lot of work there Selekta, I'll be following this with interest!

do they do the wheels in a 4 stud or will you be doing a 5 stud conversion?

Not sure how Commodore hubs would fit so i'll be using hub adaptors.

Please, for those of us ignorant of Australian abbreviations..... what is SecSpec? I understand Spec being Specification.

SecSpec...pronounced "Sex-Spec"... Car that pulls chicks.

Picked her up for $900 - was a write-off, due to financial reasons I assume.

The car industry here is stupid, they have taxes in place to protect the local car market. That means you can pick up a new Falcon or Commodore fairly cheap, and anything that isn't Australian becomes a pain. (Well, we get Corsas (Badged as Barinas)Vectras/Astras and Fiestas/Focuses/Mondeos cheaply too, somehow they become "Australian" because they have a Ford/Holden badge on them )

It is the general assumption that European cars are expensive to fix, therefore really good cars get written-off when they have little damage. Good thing for people like me, I assume.

It's weird though, 406's are -not- rare cars down here, not at all. Alot of the people out in the country swear by Peugeot diesels, the car I picked the front off had 450,000km's, and got written off because the owners daughter put it into a tree. He replaced it with another 406, but a multiplex one! HDi of course.

Depends what's towing it

But the Specsex car is a D9 (i.e. multiplex)

Surely Australia has some rusty cars? Ahhh... but that sea air must be corrosive! and all those beach parties we hear of (salty sea water eh?)

But if they drive too near the sea don't the sharks bite the tyres off?
