New member, new 406 owner...

Hi all, im new to the site, but not new to forums....

Im 17, an avid petrol head, and have just got a 406 estate. My Dad swapped his 306 meridian for it back in 2001 (he has owned it from new). Then, for various reasons it barely got used, having covered just 15,000 miles in 8 years.

To cut a long story short, this is my pride and joy which I have owned and restored since I was 11...(this was my Grandads from new - 1980 Volvo 244DL 2.1)

I also have this Honda CG125 as my daily, but as winter arrives, it is becoming a real pain doing the 40 minute trip to work and then back again every day, hence getting the 406.

This sounds like i have more money than any 17 year old should, but my Dad has traded me the 406 for my CG125 as he wants a bike as a runaround as he has another car too and doesnt want me buying yet another car to clutter the driverway with, hence "re-posting" one that we already own. The volvo costs too much to run as a daily and I dont want it to be ruined by the winter salt.

Getting the 406 means getting rid of the CG125 to my Dad, and putting the volvo away for a year or two while I earn some NCB and save up for a second insurance policy (albeit only through the summer).

Its a 2.0l petrol model...not too common I know...and has some nice 100+ alloy wheels fitted (because I robbed the tyres off the original steelies for the volvo hehe! )

I'll get some better photos soon...

Looking forward to swapping my insurance and driving the thing!

Id really like to learn more about the model, the engine, what common upgrades there are (although im meant to be doing this on the cheap, soo...)

Damn, that's my record beaten. My 1999 406 LX saloon had done 27,600 miles when I bought it in November 2008. Never seen anyone with a less-driven 406 since then.

Mine does have 42,500 on the clock now, though, and every mile has been a pleasure! :cheesy:

Haha, yeah, well Dad bought it to replace his china blue 2000 pug 306 meridian because we had decided to go camping quite a bit and he wanted a bigger car anyway, but as soon as he bought it, my Grandad died and we got use of the motorcaravan he owned, and Dad got a bit protective over the car and then, come christmas 2002, he didnt want the car getting bashed in carparks and things, so he bought himself a saxo VTR as a runaround from the auctions. He really liked the saxo and the pug got taken off the road every winter while he owned the saxo and even in summer was rarely used. Dad then bought himself a boat on a trailer so he swapped the saxo for a 1996 mitsubishi pajero, which he also loves, so the peugeot continued to not be used.

....and that was a stupid idea, cause now hes given it to me to use as a volvo parts lugger and work transport!

Having said that, as seen above, I do look after my motors, so it wont be as bad as it sounds...

itll not be that low mileage for long - ive done more miles in my volvo since i passed my test in july than this car has done since it was built :P

That stupid cone filter will be coming off too....it doesnt make enough difference to even consider risking the insurance/paying the extra cost!

What's the extra cost on the cone filter? I'd leave it if I were you, the standard intake is under the l/h wheel arch and 406s drown rather easily.

Looks very clean, splendid :cheesy: I like the loose headrests - got so fed up with taking mine off and putting them back they're stuck in my garage with the parcel shelf thing. And the arm rests. And the inlet pipe. And the engine cover :supafrisk:

Hmmm maybe i'll leave it on, could i not just fit the original air box and re-route the intake? (the airbox sits where the cone filter is now...)

The headrests are just off because the rear seat is folded down. Must admit they are a pain though...
