Looks very tidy

All the way from Northamptonshire too.
The speedo is a common fault - to do with a black box behind the glovebox, I believe - try a search on here.

I looked at the £36 black box from pug but thought that was for completely dead speedo's. Mine will stick, smack the top of the dash and it will work, hit a speed bump and it goes nuts then sticks, smack dash and find speed
plus the fuel guage has decided I have about 3 tanks of diesel in it at times which made me question an earth somewhere.
It might look tidy but it's a little rough on the edges, will show it some TLC and keep it as a nice tidy motorway mile muncher
Not found out if it is a true pug of love yet though, will have to convince the Mrs on that

I got the car from Luton although previous owner was from Northampton and some service history is northampton based

. Am currently living in Manchester for the next 3 weeks before moving to London

I've heard a few references to dry joints on the circuit board, so could be that.

More environmentally friendly to 'recycle' one from your local scrappy
It might not work, true, but it's very unlikely to misbehave in exactly the same way.

yeah was going to get the instrument cluster out and check it all out. The dealer was a bit pikey, it needs new front discs and pads, the brake fluid is brown (hoping this is the spongy pedal not the master cylinder) and to get around it they have removed the lights from the dash lol. So suspect the monkey has bent a pin or something similar so will check it all out.
I would recycle one from a scrappy but with electrics I am suspect as they are not necessarily known good working units, and when looking at electrical faults it's easier to go new and rule that out

I suppose 36 quid isn't too bad

Aye, £36 isn't too bad for stealership part, unless it is nothing more than a resister wrapped in plastic in which case it's a rip off

Goodies arrived yesterday
And after about 3 hours shifting cables and connectors around, finally got it fitted. I really should get a decent camera
Next job will be to get the two JBL W12 GTi's installed in the boot, really should have done the amp wires before getting it fully in but hey ho live and learn. Hands are a mess now though

Not another picture (will get one when I have it on the ramps) but today have had the cat chopped out of it. Got sick of the raspberry noises the exhaust was making at me so for the cost of the replacement cat which I couldn't just go out and buy I had the cat removed. It's like driving a whole new car

Just been to halfrauds to spend some gift vouchers, and picked up an oil and fuel filter so will get them done this weekend.
Am on the lookout for a set of braided front brake hoses that I don't have to wait for Goodridge to manufacture as I could do with them by the weekend. Everywhere seems to be advertising them but then saying they are shipped from the manufacturer

I just want the hoses

i can bet your cluster fault is not due to earth problem, i have same car but 1998 and my clocks were faulty when i bought the car,
the circuit board inside the cluster was FULL or dry solder joints , take them out and inspect them, you will notice a dry joint it will be cracked all the way round were its soldered to the board, 1 hour of my time and a soldering iron sorted mine, they have NOT been faulty since
