406 Wheel wobble - following a long drive

Post by pclarejnr »

Hi all,

I have a 110 hdi estate, 150k, It was in Peugeot for a full service on Wed, I drove to Solihull and back yesterday (From Anglesey), I approached a roundabout on the express way and braked as usual , only this time there was a mighty wobble, more through the steering wheel than the car but the passengers did feel it,I thought at first I had warped the disks, so I maintained the high speed cruise, nothing untoward happened for the next couple of roundabouts other than a slight wobble (Barely noticeable), anyhow on the a roads the car became almost un-drivable any reasonable right bends the car shuddered almost like the engine was misfiring and the wobble was apparent through the steering (not even under breaking), I knocked it into neutral for a few bends and the symptoms remained the same, I got the car on the drive and went in to the house, job for today that one!!

This morning I jacked the n/s wheel and could find nothing even with the wheels being driven by the engine, I did the same for the o/s

I took the car out for a drive and Hey presto it was fixed :supafrisk: , this isn't something I can just pass of as the car was unsafe and I'm sure most of you can appreciate having kids in the car doesn't give me the option of leaving it to show it's ugly head at a later date :|

I really need help on this one

Have you checked all the suspension/steering ball joints?

Well I've had a good old root and the only thing I can find is the cv boot gaiter clips are not holding the boot properly  , The car has done this after several long drives now (and only after a long drive), is it possible that the inners of the CV are heating up and catching somehow, I have noticed that it only wobbles when not under load  , if there's the slightest acceleration no wobble :x

Well I think I've cracked it.. :cheesy:

The CV boot gaiters were not secured, So I popped some grease in and put new clips on and Hey presto no wobble, I've been up and down the country several times with no wobbles :?

hope this was the problem
