Hi Guys (& Girls?)

I have a 406 HDI Exec and the front end has completely dropped. Loud noise like a shotgun going off whilst it was parked up (Was just chatting to my dad outside before he left) We found a small piece of the offside front spring on the floor adn i assumed that i'd just cracked the offside spring and left it until new years.

I thought at first it was just the offside spring that had gone but on further investigatiion a couple of days ago there is a large pool of fluid near the front nearside and both sides have dropped...It was parked with the nearside on teh kerb from Christmas eve until the 27th due to snow on my sloping shared drive and when i moved it off the kerb to check the spring i noticed both sides have completly dropped and the oil/hydrolic fluid on the nearside.

Anyone got any diagram/pics available of the set-up at all? Any ideas on what will need replacing (bar two new springs!) or have i perhaps just split a hose somewhere? Cant see 2 Shocks and springs just collapsing?!

Any comments on the problem much appreciated

sounds like your spring has damaged the brake pipes

make sure you change both sides, springs, even if 1 hasnt gone still change them both.

it couid of just bust the shockers, but as above check the flexi/pipes for the brakes and pipes also,
best to get two legs from a scrapyard -its cheaper than gettin two springs and then findin out the shocks are fubard,

It's possible the stress of the spring snapping caused the other one to go; as the others say it's probably taken out a brake hose, fairly common when they get to a certain age.
The struts will probably be ok but you may want to change them anyway as they're reasonably priced at eurocarparts or similar.
I'd recommend getting yourself a pair of antirollbar drop links as well; these will need to come off to get the struts out and are generally rusted to buggery. Check the ARB bushes while you're at it.
